Source beside the result
A research project includes more than its final PDF. VEXTA keeps multi-file LaTeX, Markdown, references, figures, data, and scripts in one project structure. Authors can follow a document from its source to its rendered pages without losing the surrounding work.
Automatic compilation and source-to-PDF navigation keep writing and inspection close. Native source analysis powers headings, citations, references, and folding across a multi-file project. Equations and parameters have their own workspace for definitions, units, and source navigation.
Review that stays with the project
Comments on source and PDF pages, manuscript checks, revision history, and review decisions remain attached to the project. A returned draft carries the record of what changed and why.
Optional assistant tools support questions, rewrites, and source-linked research. Context can be inspected, edits checkpointed, and changes undone. Local writing remains available without a model provider or cloud account.
From a live edit to a publication PDF
The September update to 0.5.4 moves local LaTeX build orchestration into Rust and adds Tectonic as an explicit engine for preview, full builds, and publication export. Supported prose edits can appear on the existing PDF page while TeX runs; the completed build replaces that temporary rendering.
Full builds retain the selected engine, bibliography passes, diagnostics, and a record of what ran. Preview, full compilation, and publication export remain distinct operations. An explicitly selected Tectonic build reports a failure without silently changing engines.
Workspace tools remain available from a movable control or either sidebar. Local projects stay in folders the author controls, with cloud workspaces available as a separate mode.
