One map, one spec

MapEX Studio is a private Electron and React planner built around the existing Python compiler. The compiler turns GTFS into a schematic rail map. The Studio exposes that process for inspection and editing without adding a second map generator.

The workspace keeps one authoritative MapSpec and one displayed SVG. An edit changes the spec, then the same renderer produces the next map.

Edit loop

  • Run the GTFS-to-map compiler and inspect its progress in Build.
  • Open the generated system map through its authoritative MapSpec.
  • Make undoable edits while preserving a single displayed SVG.
  • Render edits with mapex render-spec instead of repeating GTFS generation.

Current verification

Checks cover the typed application build, application tests, generation from a WMATA GTFS feed, and rendering from MapSpec. They establish the integrated workflow for that evidence. They do not establish uniform results across every transit system; feed-specific validation is still in progress.
